The first year of the four year engineering programme is common to all the students irrespective of any branch to which they have got admission. The syllabus for the first year is same for all the branches. Nearly all the staff members are post graduates and are highly experienced.

There are 6 laboratories dedicated for carrying out practicals for the first year subjects. The students are exposed to all type of work from field work to handling workshop activities, carrying out experimental work in the subject Physics and Chemistry. This department is also equipped with different working models for the subjects Basic Mechanical Engg, Basic Civil Engineering and Basic Electrical Engineering. Industrial tours for the first year students are organized.
